The short answer

There is no cheap day. A sofa is $126 on a Tuesday in February and on a Saturday in July. There is no weekend surcharge, no same-day surcharge, no seasonal pricing and no winter charge. The $75 minimum and the truck ladder from $241 to $732 are the same all year.

What varies is whether you can get the window you want. The best slots in this market are mid-week and mid-month. The worst are the last weekend of a month, and the first week of May.

Mid-week beats the weekend

Saturday is the busiest day everywhere, because that is when people are home. If you can be there on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday you will get a tighter window, a better choice of times, and a crew that is not running behind from an earlier job.

If you cannot be there at all, a weekday works even better — items in an unlocked garage, on a back deck, or in a unit a manager can open do not need you present. You approve the total in advance and we text when the crew is on the way.

The month-end crunch

Leases across the valley end together, so the last four days of any month are the tightest of that month, and the following two or three days are busy with the aftermath. If your job is tied to a handover or a closing, book a week out. If it is not, book for the middle of the month and you will have your pick of windows.

The corollary: if you are moving, schedule the clearance for the day after the movers rather than the same day. Same-day means the crew is working around a half-loaded house and you are making decisions under pressure.

The Salt Lake calendar, month by month

  • January to February. Quiet, and the easiest time to get a slot. Inversion settles into the valley and nobody wants to be outside, which is precisely why availability is good. Clear a path from the door to the truck and it is a normal job.
  • March to April. The thaw brings the busiest domestic season of the year: garages become accessible, decks become visible, and everybody discovers what the winter did to the patio furniture and the hot tub.
  • Late April to early May. The peak. University of Utah and Westminster move-out empties the streets below campus and through the lower Avenues. Book well ahead or work around it.
  • June to August. Family moving season, with a lot of it in the south valley — Herriman, Riverton, Daybreak, Lehi. Hot, so morning slots are better for everyone.
  • September to October. The best stretch of the year. Weather is good, the moving rush is over, and people clear garages before the first storms. Availability is wide.
  • November to December. Quiet again apart from the week before a holiday, when people clear a room for guests. Snow arrives and access becomes the variable.

Season-specific jobs

Some jobs have a right season regardless of availability.

Hot tubs: spring. A tub that froze over winter cannot be drained until it thaws. A hot tub is $322 and the sensible window is April through October.

Garages: spring or autumn. Mid-winter means the apron is under packed snow and the door will not open cleanly.

Decks and patios: spring. Patio table $89 and chairs $30 each, once you can see what survived.

Basements: any time. This is the winter job. A basement clearance is entirely indoors, which makes January and February genuinely good months for it — and those are the months with the best availability.

Winter is not a problem, it is a preparation

We work all year and charge the same for it. What winter changes is the ten minutes before we arrive:

  • Shovel and salt the path from the door to where the truck can stand. On the bench streets and the Avenues, that path matters more than the stairs do.
  • Clear the garage apron if the garage is the job.
  • Move your own car so the crew can use your frontage on a tight street.
  • Tell us if the rear alley is unplowed so we plan a street carry.

None of that is a requirement and none of it changes the price. It is the difference between a fifteen-minute job and a forty-minute one.

How far ahead to book

Rules of thumb for this market: same day or next day is usually available mid-week and mid-month. Two to three days for a weekend slot outside the crunch. A week for the last weekend of a month, or for anything in the first week of May. Two weeks if your job is tied to a closing date and you want the buffer.

And book once rather than twice. Two quarter loads are $241 + $241 = $482; one half truck is $431. Waiting a week to do it in a single visit is both cheaper and one fewer morning spent at home.
