The short answer

Most single-item jobs in this valley land between $75 and $208. Most room-sized jobs land between $241 and $431. Whole-garage and whole-basement jobs run $587 to $732. Estate and long-tenure clearances go past that into multiple loads.

Below are eight jobs in the shape this market produces, priced from the published list, with the addition shown. Nothing is a range and nothing is rounded.

One item, Sugar House

A couch out of a rented duplex on a side street off 2100 South. Second floor, exterior stairs, no lift.

Sofa $126. That is the whole invoice. No stair charge for the second floor and no charge for the carry down to the street. If the tenant had only had the coffee table at $67, it would have billed at the $75 minimum instead.

A bedroom, the Avenues

Top floor of a converted 1908 house, staircase turns twice, bedroom being emptied after a tenant left.

Mattress and box spring set $143 + standard bed frame $68 + standard dresser $126 + nightstand $57.

$143 + $68 = $211. $211 + $126 = $337. $337 + $57 = $394.

Same price as the ground floor. The staircase is the reason people call, not the reason the number changes.

Basement laundry, Rose Park

Post-war rambler, washer and dryer in the basement, replaced after twenty-two years.

Washer $133 + dryer $128 = $261.

The retailer delivering the new pair would not carry the old ones up the stairs. That is the single most common reason an appliance job lands on us in this valley.

A living room, Millcreek

Main-floor living room cleared before new furniture arrived.

Sofa $126 + loveseat $119 + coffee table $67 + end table $52.

$126 + $119 = $245. $245 + $67 = $312. $312 + $52 = $364.

Against the ladder, a three-eighths truck is $338 and it all fitted, so the booking went in at $338. Pricing it both ways saved $26 for thirty seconds of arithmetic.

A two-car garage, Herriman

Fifteen years of accumulation in a south-valley subdivision. Shelving both sides, a bay that never held a car.

Half truck: $431.

Priced per item it would have been treadmill $115 + weight bench $69 + large junk pile $208 = $392, but there was more than that in there once the shelving came out, so the truck fraction was the honest booking. The paint and solvents stayed behind for the county household hazardous waste route.

A basement, Capitol Hill

Full basement in a house built before 1920. Narrow stair with a turn at the bottom.

Chest freezer $146 + storage cabinet $74 + large junk pile $208.

$146 + $74 = $220. $220 + $208 = $428.

A half truck would have been $431, so the item list won by $3. Either way the number was known before the crew arrived.

A back deck, Cottonwood Heights

Spring clearance after a hot tub froze and cracked over winter.

Hot tub $322 + patio table $89 + four patio chairs at $30 each ($30 + $30 + $30 + $30 = $120).

$322 + $89 = $411. $411 + $120 = $531.

A family home, Holladay

Parents moved into care after thirty-four years in the house. Full basement, storage room, two-car garage.

Two full truckloads: $732 + $732 = $1,464, plus the upright piano at $290. $1,464 + $290 = $1,754, booked across two days with each day approved separately.

That is the top of the normal range for this valley and it is driven by tenure, not by wealth. Long occupancy plus a real basement plus a large family is how a house gets to two truckloads.

What decides your number

  • Volume, not difficulty. Stairs, steep Avenues driveways, alley access and snow do not add anything.
  • Batching. One visit with everything beats two visits. Two quarter loads are $241 + $241 = $482 against a single half truck at $431.
  • The minimum. $75 per visit, so very small jobs round up to it.
  • Which method you book. Always compare the item total against the truck ladder and take the lower one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical junk removal bill in Salt Lake City?

Single items are $75 to $208. A room is $241 to $431. A full garage or basement is $587 to $732. Long-tenure family homes often run to two loads at $732 + $732 = $1,464.

Do prices change by neighborhood?

No. The same item costs the same in the Avenues, Rose Park, Sugar House, Daybreak and Bountiful. Access affects how long a job takes, not what it costs.

How do I know whether to book per item or by truck?

Price both. List your items for a total, then compare against the ladder: $241, $338, $431, $513, $587, $661, $732. Book whichever is lower.

Is there a charge for stairs or a basement carry?

No. In a valley where nearly every older home has a full basement, that is the difference that matters most.

What is the smallest bill possible?

$75, the per-visit minimum. If your item lists below that, add anything else that is going — the extra pieces effectively cost less than the first one.
